To say that technology is an important part of our ability to perform nearly every job in the Bank would be an understatement. Those in our company who work daily to insure we have access to the tools needed to perform our duties are often taken for granted when things run smoothly; however, let a problem arise and their importance is quickly realized. Such is the case with this month’s Star, and we’d like to take this opportunity to showcase not only his part in day to day operations but also share a glimpse of a man many might not know.
Dennis Means, AVP/Data Processing Manager, in our Longview Greggton office is our Star of the Month for June 2014. A 13-year employee, Dennis manages the Data Processing and Image Processing areas at Austin Bank. He is our “mainframe guy” but also works with the Technology Department on numerous projects because of the number of server-based applications that touch our mainframe for data or records updates. Technology in our world is high stress because of the ever-changing environment and the direct impact on employees and customers. “Dennis is a ‘low key’ type individual. He seems to always be calm and tackles issues with a consistent approach – identify the problem, get assistance when required, correct the problem and move forward” says Glenn Bass, SEVP/Deposit Operations. Without complaint, Dennis serves as the backbone of his department and is available at all times – nights and weekends included - to answer questions or deal with matters as they arise.
In addition to his workload, Dennis enjoys spending time with his family and participating in outdoor activities. Dennis is the middle child from a family of 9, and he and his wife, Jan, have four children ranging in age from 11 to 19. A true family man, a visit to his office will provide you a glimpse of their importance in his life as artwork from all of the children is proudly displayed. An active supporter of his community (though his address shows Gilmer, he will proudly tell you he lives in Kelsey), Dennis is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, a leader in the Harmony Band Boosters for many years, and serves on the Kelsey Cemetery Board. He is a graduate of Harmony High School, Kilgore College, and American Sentinel University. In addition he completed the Austin Bank Leadership training in 2009.
“Dennis is a very dedicated, conscientious employee. He takes personal responsibility for making sure that everything in his area works as smoothly as possible. He is respected and trusted by the whole department and I am very glad to have him as part of our team.”
John Orr, SVP/Chief Information Officer, Longview Greggton
“I am very pleased to call Dennis a part of our team and appreciate his honest and open approach to managing his areas of responsibility and his staff.”
Glenn Bass, SEVP/Deposit Operations, Longview Greggton
“I am so lucky to have the privilege of working alongside someone so committed to Austin Bank, keeping his employees happy and encouraging others no matter what the circumstances. Dennis truly cares for everyone he comes in contact with. He is very deserving of this award.”
Kelli Jester, Computer Operator, Longview Greggton
