Colin Powell, former Army General and National Security Advisor, said, “As a leader you set the tone for your entire team.” You can say all of the right things yet still set the wrong tone, or you can be an authentic leader and actually do what you want your teammates to do. It is this behavioral example, lived by the leader on a daily basis that fills employees with the confidence they are working with someone on whom they can depend. This month’s Star was nominated by his teammates for this very reason. It is our pleasure to introduce you to our May Star - Darrell Thompson, Retail Office Manager for our Troup location.
Darrell’s coworkers share that he comes into work every morning ready to start the day with a smile on his face, never complaining and determined to work harder than he worked the day before. He is said to constantly set new goals for himself and the office and ensures those goals are met or surpassed each month. “Darrell believes in Austin Bank and our products,” shares Lisa McCoy, SVP/eBanking Manager, Jacksonville. “He looks to the needs of the customer and matches them with the best we have to offer. He is always willing to share information and is not afraid to speak up.” Darrell is a wonderful embodiment of the Austin Bank values and takes great pride in his job.
Originally hired as the Retail Office Manager for the Bank’s Noonday office in 2014, he brought with him more than ten years of previous banking experience. Darrell then moved to oversee retail operations in Palestine before transferring to his current role in Troup in 2018. He and his family – wife, Sara, their three daughters (Alexa, Bella and Jazzy), and two dogs – live in Jacksonville. He enjoys spending time with his family, including serving as coach and biggest fan for his daughters’ many activities and sports teams. Darrell is a basketball fan and is very involved in the youth soccer association in which his daughters participate. In addition, he works with the East Texas State Fair and other organizations to serve his community. A graduate of Jacksonville High School, Darrell earned an Associate’s degree from Jacksonville College and a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Texas at Tyler.
“Darrell brings an upbeat attitude and wealth of knowledge to his office. He is a “go-to” person for other ROMs and an extremely hard worker. Austin Bank is fortunate to have him and I am very thankful to have him on my team.”
Misty Evans, SVP/Retail Market Manager, Frankston
“Darrell is an ideal coworker. He comes in early, stays late and represents the Austin Bank core values to the fullest. I am honored to work with him and call him a friend.”
Jarrod Wallum, Location President, Troup
“Darrell is a ‘lead by example’ supervisor with an open door policy. He is ever ready to assist in all capacities of the office whether with customer service, working a teller drawer, opening accounts, assisting with a loan to even collecting the trash or sweeping the floor. I consider myself very fortunate to work in the same office with Darrell.”
