With more than 37 years experience in the banking industry, this month’s Star practices the adage ‘good service is good business.’ His commitment to his customers, along with his willingness to help his fellow banker, earned him multiple nominations for this recognition. For that, we are proud to announce Jim Wallace, Commercial Lender in Longview Oak Forest, as our August Star of the Month.
“Jim Wallace is the epitome of customer service,” states Megan Hodgkins, Loan Assistant at Longview Oak Forest. “Jim gives his customers the service that you expect only the elite would receive. He never tells his customers what is best for him, but always asks what is best for them. Jim is his customers’ biggest fan, always there trying to make them better and help them grow,” she continues. In addition to production goals provided by the Loan Department, Jim sets his own personal goals each month, reiterating his commitment to build customer relationships. He makes it a priority to visit with his customers; even driving long distances to make sure customers’ needs are met. Though Jim’s primary responsibility is lending, he is not afraid to jump in and help a fellow employee in the Bank. “Since he has been at Oak Forest, he has helped the tellers open and close, exudes great customer service and is a true team player,” shares Heather Standridge, Teller Operations Supervisor at Longview Oak Forest.
Before joining Austin Bank in 2011, Jim previously worked as Senior Vice President for several banks including Longview National Bank, Texas Commerce Bank and Bank Texas of Longview. He also held the position of President/CEO for Allied Bank in Longview and City National Bank in Kilgore. His knowledge and experience make Jim a valuable asset to the Bank and he shares his experiences with others as he assists in the Officer Call training provided by the Loan Department.
A native of East Texas, Jim is a graduate of Longview High School, Texas Christian University and Southwestern Graduate School of Banking at SMU. He and his wife, Susie, live in Longview. They have six children and five grandchildren. Jim is very active in the Gregg County community where he serves on the Board of Directors for the Kilgore Chamber of Commerce, the City of Longview’s Planning and Zoning Committee, and is a member of First United Methodist Church in Longview where he serves in various areas.
“Jim has been relentless in his pursuit of new customers for the Bank. He always goes the extra mile to make sure closings are done on time, documents are right and that the transaction is completed with no surprises. Once they are his customers, he remains a financial resource for them.”
Jason Petersen, EVP/Regional President, Longview Oak Forest
“Jim lives by the core values that Austin Bank has set forth for their employees. He believes strongly in being up front and honest with the customer and giving them the most important thing – confidentiality.”
Megan Hodgkins, Loan Assistant, Longview Oak Forest
“I am very lucky to work alongside someone with such excellent customer service skills. Jim is all about his customers and treating them fairly no matter their financial status. He is a big asset to Austin Bank and to our community.”
